General Information:

Nina Ralambondrainy is the National Director of CEF on this island. She is married to Tiana Ralambondrainy. After attending the Children Ministry Institute (CMI ) in Switzerland in 2001, she applied to become a full time worker in 2002.

30% (232,500) of the population of  Reunion is younger than 15 years Therefore the need of reaching these children was on the heart of Nina and CEF was officially registered in 2003
As we look at Reunion it might seem to us to be a little Island but there are many children who need Jesus and there are a need for more children workers.
A total of 12 volunteers help with the administration and Good News Clubs. There are 6 Good News Clubs and another two are planned to begin in January 2007. A total of 366 children were reached in 2005.

Reunion Island is located approximately 694 km east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. It is one of three islands in the Mascarene island group which also includes Mauritius and Rodriguez
The Island is about 45 km wide by 63 km long. It is extremely mountainous with the highest peak reaching 3070 meters. It even occasionally snow on top of the mountain! ( In August 2003 and October 2006 ). There is an active volcano which erupts quite often.

There are close to 775,000 people living on Reunion. They are a very diverse group of people. There are French, African, Malagasy, Indian and Chinese people. The largest group on the island is called Creole and they are a mixture of these various groups. All of these people are French citizens because Reunion is a french department overseas.
The people of Reunion have blended their different origins and cultures thus making up a "Reunion" of people and customs. At first glance they appear to be very reserved people, but underneath that facade is a very warm, caring person. Friendship are highly valued in this society and much time is spent building and maintaining these relationships.

The largest religion on Reunion is Roman Catholicism (80% of the population) followed by Hinduism. Evangelical Christianity accounts for about 5 % of the population. There is also a large Islamic community. There are several cults active on Reunion. In addition to this there is a strong influence of animism. People tend to mix traditions and practice from all of these sources.
